Panama Invites Tenders for $3.1 Million Worth of Lab Equipment

The contract is for the supply of electronic equipment, furniture, training and set up of 12 laboratories.

The 12 labs are for ten training centers being set up by Panama's Professional Human Resources Training and Development Institute (INADEH in Spanish).

Technical specifications: the electronic lab equipment should be able to cope with up to 24 participants. Each workstation must be able to be used by two people.

The date planned for when proposals may be received is 17 September.

Metrology Laboratory in Guatemala Renews Equipment

Equipment donated by the European Union will enable the laboratory to be updated in order to provide metrology services adhering to international standards.


The donation to the National Metrology Center (Cenamo) includes laboratory equipment for use with fine and coarse masses, volume and flow, temperature measurement, pressure, force, power, density and viscosity, dimensional, longitudinal, time and frequency, and reference materials.

International Coffee Lab for Panama

The country's first certified coffee laboratory will be built in the province of Chiriquí.

Construction could began early 2010, detailed Herman Gneagi, from the Program for Technological Development and Modernization of Coffee Growing.

General Electric Rules Out Panama for Laboratory

The company explained the country lacks the number of English-speaking IT specialists required for the project.

GE needed to hire between 1.000 and 1.500 IT technicians and engineers for this initiative, and will move it to Chile instead.

"GE sources assured they couldn't be sure they would have the required personnel, even with a three-year window and reducing the number of English-speaking engineers to 50%", reported Prensa.com.

UNACHI, the Autonomous University of Chiriquí, will build research labs.

Works are expected to be completed on 2013.
