A press release by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) reads:
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) has granted a loan to Banco Cathay allowing it to expand its global credit line to $10.5 million in order to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as well as international trade and housing Costa Rica.
With this new funding of $3.5 million, CABEI has approved a total sum of U.S. $10.5 million for this sector and channeled it to this bank, which is regulated and supervised by the Superintendent of Financial Institutions of Costa Rica.
According to the characteristics of the line of credit, funds will be used for comprehensive support to micro, small and medium enterprises, rural development and international trade programs and housing.

State banks will allocate $670 million through different programs aimed at Small and Medium Enterprises.
According to a survey conducted by La Nacion with State owned financial institutions, the sectors most favored will be service and trade.
"For 2011 Banco Nacional has a budget of $375 million to lend to MSMEs, Banco Popular has $243 million, BCR $30 million and Bancrédito $22 million, respectively."

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and Banco ProCredit Honduras have signed an agreement to open a credit line to finance micro-companies and SMEs.
With the $5 million credit line ProCredit seeks to strengthen its portfolio of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Honduras.
