$15 Million for Honduran Coffee Growers

Banhprovi, the Honduran Bank for Production and Housing, will offer long term, low rate loans for coffee growers.

The main objective of the program is to assist coffee growers in improving the quality of their plantations.

Asterio Reyes, from the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafé), explained that the funds would also be used to buy 100.000 quintals of fertilizers.

Honduras: $339 Million Available for Housing Projects

The Bank for Production and Housing (Banhprovi), has earmarked $339 million for funding homebuilding projects.

Banhprovi’s executive president, Julio César Quintanilla, added that in 2010 they will also loan resources for production and micro-credit.

According to Honduran daily La Prensa, Quintanilla remarked that 2009 was a record year for the institution, as they disbursed more funds than ever.

$50 Million For Salvadoran Coffee Industry

The funds by BMI (Multilateral Investment Bank), are intended to reactivate coffee production.

A special credit line was created for coffee growers, producers, packers and exporters, as well as coffee societies and associations.

From Elsalvador.com: “$50 million will be available in credits across the entire financial system, at 9% interest rate, and maturing on September 2011”.

Growers explained that banks are not using the special credit line created specifically for them by the Government, which is channeled through the Multi-sector Investment Bank (BMI).

Coffee growers explained that they are unable to start sowing for this season because they lack credit.

The Coffee Institute confirmed a $ 7.8 million investment in the importation of agrochemicals for the 2011/2012 harvest.

Asterio Reyes, president of the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE), said that in anticipation of the direct impact the price of oil will have on the cost of chemicals, they will invest in the purchase of 100 million quintales of urea and 150 thousand quintales of improved formula to safeguard the 2011 -2012 harvest.
