$32 million for Guatemalan MSMEs

The World Bank has approved a loan to finance Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Economy Minister Luis Velasquez said it has already held meetings with various factions of the Legislature to promote the approval of the loan.

"We expect it to be dealt with next week in the Economic Cabinet and then to be sent to the Monetary Board to receive their ruling", said the representative to Sigloxxi.com.gt.

Bantrab Receives $15 Million For Guatemalan SMEs

Guatemala’s sixth largest bank, Bantrab (Spanish acronym for Worker’s Bank), landed a credit line from the German Development Bank (DEG).

Mauricio Álvarez, Bantrab’s head of strategic planning, explained that the funds will be loaned to small and medium enterprises from rural and urban areas.

According to a survey conducted by La Nacion with State owned financial institutions, the sectors most favored will be service and trade.

"For 2011 Banco Nacional has a budget of $375 million to lend to MSMEs, Banco Popular has $243 million, BCR $30 million and Bancrédito $22 million, respectively."

Multibank Gets $ 6 million Loan

The IIC financing will create effective mechanisms to channel credits to SMEs in Panama.

The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) approved a loan of up to $ 6 million to Multibank, Inc. for the financing of SMEs in Panama by leasing and factoring, working capital and housing for Panamanian citizens.
