500 SMEs Under Threat

With sales plummeting 45% and lacking credit, some 500 micro, small and medium companies are under risk of closing.

José Fernández, president of Anmpih (Association of Micro, Small and Medium Insutrial companies), labeled the situation as "critical".

"This is a disaster, even companies from the service sector believe they won't get through next year, and some 500 micro companies are about to close due to lack of funds, as they don't even know how they'll pay the Christmas bonus", warned José Fernandez in a Laprensahn.com article.

Honduran SMEs Request Incentives

Micro, small and medium sized enterprises have asked the government to create financing incentives.

The proposal seeks to develop the sector and ensure growth in the micro enterprise sector next year.

José Enrique Núñez, president of the Honduran SME Association (Anmpih in Spanish), told Laprensa.hn that, "the proposal will incentivize the opening of the new market and generate an increase in companies' production, thereby creating jobs for many people".

$53 million for Honduran small businesses

Within 30 days the government will open lines of credit for small and medium businesses.

The Vice Minister of Small and Medium Businesses, Ana Munguia announced, according to Latribuna.hn, that "We know that small businesses have always had access to the resources, we have an order from the President of the Republic for these resources to be made available within 30 days."

Credit access project for Panamanian Micro, Small and Medium sized businesses

November 2008

The project seeks to establish mechanisms to collect credit information and evaluations in order to facilitate access to financing for small and medium businesses.

The project, which will be development over 40 months, includes an investment of $1.7 million dollars, of which 69% will be provided by the IDB's Multilateral Investment Fund; the remaining 31% will be provided by the Panama Credit Association (APC).

El Salvador Negotiates $500 Million Loan

December 2009

The loan is being negotiated with BNDES, the National Development Bank of Brazil, and would be used in development projects.

President Mauricio Funes expects to sign the loan in the first quarter of 2010.

"According to Funes, the loan being negotiated is for $500 million and would be geared to supporting micro, small and medium companies", reported Invertia.
