$5 million Worth of Business at Food Fair

Six Guatemalan companies closed deals at the Anuga international trade fair for food and beverages 2011, held in Germany.

Exporters of coffee, jams, frozen goods and palms, among others, participated in the Anuga international trade fair for food and beverages 2011, which brought together buyers and sellers from around the world.

The participation of several Guatemalan companies has already paid off, as some of the 161 buyers attending the event have closed business deals.

These include companies from countries such as Germany, Finland and the Middle East.

According to an article in Prensalibre.com: "The Guatemalan Exporters Association headed the country's pavilion at the fair in Koln Messe, Cologne, Germany, in which 97 countries participated."

Some 145 Salvadoran companies will participate this year in international fairs, particularly those related to the food and beverage sector.

Some 145 firms, mostly medium and small sized, will participate in trade fairs in Germany, Colombia, Taiwan and Panama, among other countries, and it is expected that deals will be made worth around $30 million.

The organizers expect next year's business deals to be worth $50 million.

The 50 participating exhibitors and 57 international buyers held 962 business meetings.

The coordinator of the Guatemalan Exporters’ Association (AGEXPORT), Marco Tulio Recinos, told Sigloxxi.com that, "the event was a success" and added that, "markets were more diversified with 44% of buyers from the US but also representatives from the Dominican Republic and Mexico".

EuroExpo 2010 Begins

The event hosts 120 presenters and will continue until 22 July in Antigua, Guatemala.

Companies are participating from Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Germany, Holand, Sweden and Spain.

"A Euro Expo press release explains that the event will bring together products and services from Central American and European businesses in sectors including logistics, banking, law, food, automobiles, construction materials and cosmetics," reports Prensalibre.com.
