6 Companies Bid for Salvadoran Highway Stretch

Six companies have submitted bids for building 9.62 km of the Northern Highway (CLN).

Called 4C, the stretch runs from Ciudad Dolores to the bridge in Nuevo Edén de San Juan, in Cabañas.

Laprensagrafica.com details the bids: “Equipos de Construcción, $13.31 million; Constructora Eterna, $11.84 million; Constructora Meco, $16.94 million; Astaldi, $12.03 million; FCC Construcción de Centroamérica, $15.53 million and TOPSAL Construcciones, $12.48 million”.

10 Companies submitted bids to construct a stretch called “4B” in the Northern Highway (CLN – Carretera Longitudinal del Norte).

They ranged from $3.6 million (FCC Construcción de Centroamérica) to $7.6 million (Topsal Construcciones S.A. de C.V).


The contract comprises improving 2.5 kilometers of existing highway and building 5 kilometers of new road, and will be carried out under a “design and construction” scheme.

Six companies have bid to construct Section 3B of the Salvadoran highway that traverses the north of the country.

The participating companies presented offers of between $20 and $31 million include Astaldi, FCC Cosntrucciones, Constructora Santa Fé and Equipos de Construcción.

9 companies submitted bids for building a 23.22 km stretch of the highway known as CLN (“Carretera Longitudinal del Norte”).

Linares S.A. de C.V. submitted the lowest priced bid at $21.49 million, while the highest price was submitted by Italian corporation Astaldi: $31.3 million.

Bids for stretch 5 of the "Longitudinal del Norte" highway range from $24.6 million to $41.7 million.

Construction will begin January 2010, and is expected to last for 22 months, explained José Ángel Quirós, Fomilenio's executive director.

Laprensagrafica.com reports: "The lowest priced bid was submitted by company 'FCC Construcción de Centroamérica S.A.', at $24.6 million for concrete asphalt.
