Agricultural Conflict Affects Investments in Honduras

The lack of a solution to the Bajo Aguán issue is having negative consequences for the country's investment climate.

The decision by a German bank to cancel its approval of a $20 million loan to Corporación Dinant to develop the Bajo Aguán project threatens to scare of other investments in the country.

Complaints against the project by human rights organizations were listened to by the German bank, DEG, which acknowledged that the issues surrounding the project were the reason for canceling the contract and loans.

An article in El Heraldo states that, "the freezing of this credit is beginning to affect Dinant's operations in Honduras, according to the company's spokesperson, Roger Pineda".
