In an article about the stark reality prevalent in El Salvador, Karla Argueta examines the changes taking place in the music and entertainment industry, providing analysis that can be extrapolated to apply throughout Central America.
The Internet is the new reality
An interesting reflection on the causes of music stores being made extinct is the unstoppable advance of new forms of communication and distribution of goods such as music and other entertainment products, with the Internet being the new economic environment. This change can not be stopped, and we need to assimilate and reinvent businesses in order to fit in with the new reality.
The State is not complying with its duties
However, the other cause of the death of the music stores, is piracy, exercised in full view of everyone in the main shopping streets and even in well-established Central American cities, and due exclusively to governments failure to do its duty to monitor and repress these activities. This reality is one that can be changed.
