To support the efforts of Honduras in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed a $ 100 million loan to the country.
The resources of this loan will contribute positively to compliance with six of the eight Millennium Development Goals, and through the different components of the program seeks to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, support education, reduce mortality child mortality, improve maternal health, ensuring environmental sustainability and promoting gender equality.
Some components of the program, such as School Lunch, Milk Glass, rehabilitation, expansion and equipping of schools, Basic Drugs Table & Bono 10.000, are part of efforts funded by the CABEI to consistently increase investment in people and productive investment, key sources of economic growth.

The funds coming from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will be destined to strengthening fiscal and social programs.
Tania Lobo, Director of CABEI in Honduras, said the program's projects "will impact positively on social investment in the country."

In 2010, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), will lend $1.038 million for development projects.
$370.8 million are earmarked for Costa Rica, $199.8 million for El Salvador, $173.2 million for Guatemala and $114.9 million for Nicaragua.
As for Honduras, Alfredo Ortuño, CABEI's director, explained that "...disbursements are on hold until the Central American Integration System (SICA) revokes a ruling enacted after the Honduran coup d'état. Nevertheless, the bank has earmarked $123.6 million to finance projects in the country".

The IDB, CABEI, and the World Bank top the list of the seven financial institutions that together have pledged a total of $3.189 billion in loans for the development of public works.
The amount still available in the Honduran loan portfolio for external funding is $1.254 billion. The total amount of loans approved is $3.189 billion.

CABEI is holding $130 million in disbursements until the country pays a pending balance of $5 million.
These $130 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration are earmarked to build a highway in the north of the country, a project managed by the Millennium Challenge Account.
