Banks in Panama extend business hours

The huge demand for services has forced banks to extend their business hours and are now working overtime at many of their branches.

Big banks such as Cuscatlán, General, Credicorp, Global Bank, HSBC-Banistmo, Bac International, Banvivienda and even the National
Bank of Panama, have extended their opening hours from 5pm to 6 pm, some are even opened until 7 pm.
In Panama the banks are free to set their own schedule as there are no legal restrictions in the current banking legislation.

Guatemala - Honduras Customs Lengthens Hours of Service

Authorities from both countries have agreed to extend the Corinto border office's opening hours from 12 to 24 hours per day.

Gabriel García Ardón, governor of the Honduran port city of Cortés, indicated that the new service hours are expected to be in place from 31 August.

Panama bureaucrats work six hours a day to save energy

Panama's government offices have adopted a six-hour working day in an effort to confront an energy crisis.

President Martin Torrijos signed a decree that ordered bureaucrats to work from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., without any lunch break, until winter rains raise the level of hydroelectric dams.

Guatemala-Mexico Custom Extends Schedule

May 2010

Custom authorities from both sides of the border decided to extend their opening hours.

The Guatemalan custom will open from 6.30 AM to 8.00 PM, while the Mexican office will open at 7.30 AM.

On Saturdays they will implement a pilot plan, which allows empty containers to pass between 6.30 and 8.00 AM, and full ones from 8.00 AM to 3.00PM.

Within its national expansion process, the banking entity opened 8 new branches.

CEO Jaime Moreno explained they based their decision in the expectative that Panama will continue growing as a center for international financial transactions.

“We had to change the institution to reflect the market’s current demand”, he told newspaper Panamá América.
