Colombia and El Salvador Agree on Cooperation

The Export Promotion Fund of Colombia will advise on the creation and design of touristic coffee farms in El Salvador.

The announcement was made by the Colombian president as part of the inauguration of Tourism Showcase XXX, orgnized by the National Association of Travel and Tourism of Colombia.

El Mundo reported statements from the Colombian president, "...Proexport's advice for creating these coffee farms will represent a great resource in the future...".

Coffee Growers in El Salvador Mix Tourism and Coffee

In coffee plantations additional business are appearing such as restaurants or hotels which add value to the properties and enables growers to face the bad times of low prices of grain.

For over 5 years, many coffee plantations have gone beyond the traditional cultivation and sale of grain, with owners opening small businesses to obtain additional income or to publicize the quality of their main product.

OAS and IICA impart course on Agro-Eco-Tourism

The course is given entirely over the Internet using the Virtual Classroom teaching model established and recognized by the Educational Portal of the Americas.

The Organization of American States (OAS), via the Educational Portal of the Americas (www.educoas.org), and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), via its Distance Training Center (CECADI), are currently training the first 96 participants of the "Agro-eco-tourism: Basic elements for implementing an innovative tourism project" course. The group is made up of citizens form various member countries of the OAS and include those individuals from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Barbados, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Uruguay y Venezuela.

Tourism Picks Up in Rural Nicaragua

Between January and July growth of 5% was reported in rural community tourism.
