Based on the preliminary designs, the new Convention Center will be located in Barreal de Heredia and will feature a 6,000 square meter exhibition hall.
The Minister for Tourism, Allan Flores, said that it looks as though they will have the new facility by the end of 2013.
Commenting on convention tourism, Pablo Solano, chief executive of Costa Rica Convention Bureau (CRCVB) told Elfinancierocr.com: "Although there are no precise figures on how many people arrive in the country for such purposes ... it is a segment that is increasing and has a higher profile than the leisure and pleasure tourism: an average of $380 a day is spent. This market has good purchasing power. When it comes to meetings (congresses and conventions) the average cost per day is around $250 per participant and their average stay is three to four nights."
