Costa Rica: Convention Center Moving Forward

The National Institute of Tourism announced that it has the land to build the convention center.

The Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, said that it closed negotiations with the Integral Program of Agricultural Marketing (PIMA), the owner of land, located in Barreal de Heredia.

The article at Nacion.com adds, "Benavides said the institute has $ 5 million for the study phase, plans, surveying and municipal permits. ...the entity attempts to obtain a $ 25 million loan from a national bank ...”.

Three new convention centers will open within the next three years.

With an investment of $30 million, a project promoted by the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo, to be built in Barreal de Heredia. is expected to completed by the first quarter of 2014.

For his part Fernando Poma, Vice President of Real Hotels & Resorts (operator of the Intercontinental Hotel chain), will announce the start of construction of a facility with a 2,700 person capacity, in Guachipelín of Escazú this July.

Costa Rica: Future of Conventions Center to be Decided

In the next months the Government will decide who will build the government sponsored Conventions Center.

Some months ago Consortium “Feria Costa Rica” expressed its interest in the project, but the proposed financing scheme was not yet authorized in the country.

“The proposal comprised a $280 million securitization trust” reported Elfinancierocr.com.

Convention Center Awarded For Second Time

The ICT has awarded to the consortium International Design Group the contract for the design and construction of a new convention center in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The confirmation was made Juan Carlos Borbon, general manager of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), who said the decision must be countersigned by the Controller General's Office, reported Nacion.com.
