Costa Rica: Development Strategy in the Digital Sector

The Chamber of Information and Communication Technology (CAMTIC) presented its strategic proposal "Costa Rica: Green and Intelligent 2.0".

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

The document presented by CAMTIC to the government of Costa Rica, proposes that in order to develop a National Strategy for Information Technology and Communication: "Costa Rica: Green and Intelligent 2.0" an understanding needs to be incorporated of the concept of "media, processes, content and digital culture as a new interface in our socio-economic systems, and of scientific and technological knowledge as a platform for innovation and therefore the hub of productivity and entrepreneurship. "

"In this version of the strategy "Costa Rica: Green and Intelligent 2.0 "® incorporates for the first time the digital world as a core part of our development function. It is a gamble and we will generate debate. However, at CAMTIC we genuinely believe that in a small country, that has an exhausted agricultural frontier and a self-imposed goal to show the world the viability of carbon-neutrality, the critical path of development includes the digital world and requires us to focus public policy towards higher productivity factors in all productive sectors, to emphasize the creative or knowledge-intensive industries and all of the above, is largely based on digital frameworks. Exceeding the threshold of being a middle income country requires Costa Rica to at least double its per capita income and to do that, the digital contribution is crucial, both to the economic sector in its role as nurturing the rest of the economy and to society. "

"As a way to systematically approach the way we treat all things digital, the strategy "Costa Rica: Green and Intelligent 2.0 "® proposes to establish a great social pact, the Digital Social Pact, and manage the creation of a public-private agency which can lead the transition from Costa Rica to a modern enlightened society: the agency of society and knowledge economy. "
