Costa Rica Eliminates Tariffs on Raw Materials

The benefit will affect 32 items of raw materials used mainly in the food industry.

The elimination of the tariffs, which range between 10% and 15%, was done through an executive decree and it is was made possible after several agreements with other Central American countries which promoting progress toward trade integration." writes Nacion.com.

The country made the decision to issue a decree to reduce tariffs on raw materials not produced in industrial processes used in food industry in order to improve competitiveness of the productive sectors, in relation to raw materials like: species (cinnamon, cloves, anise seed, etc.), grain mill products (flour, barley flour, semula corn, oats) and cereal grains.

Guatemala to Eliminate Tariff on Wheat Flour

The Ministry of Economy proposed the elimination of the 5% tariff on imports of wheat flour.

The finance minister, Erick Coyoy, said the measure seeks to alleviate the increased price in commodities on the international market.

Commodity Tax Removed from Colombian Raw Materials

Nicaragua will eliminate the 35% tax on Colombian imports, which created a a disadvantage to local businesses compared to the rest of the region.

The abolition of the tax will be effective in a few weeks and follows an agreement between businesses and the government.

Jose Adan Aguerri, president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (COSEP), said that the tariff be suspended by way of a reform initiative to be adopted in Parliament after 9th April.

Guatemala to Reactive Tariffs Suit Against El Salvador

Guatemala will reactivate a lawsuit filed in 2006 for the elimination of tariffs on metallurgical products.

Alexander Cutz , director of the Management of Foreign Trade Administration (Dace), at the Ministry of Economy , said that El Salvador has reduced the tariff on galvanized sheet metal , wire and galvanized pipe to zero .
