Costa Rica Receives China Trade Mission

The delegation consists of representatives from 40 companies in the infrastructure, aerospace, high technology and clean energy sectors among others.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

This visit is the result of the momentum of new opportunities arising from the FTA with China. In terms of investment, Costa Rica is interested in benefiting from the knowledge and experience of Chinese companies to strengthen and modernize the national infrastructure. Similarly, China is offering a platform for export. "Our strong network of trade agreements with partners such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Central America, to name but a few, makes us an attractive platform for exports to these markets on preferential terms, " said President Luis Liberman.

The visit to San Jose is the last of the group's agenda, having conducted a tour of three Latin American countries: Brazil, Argentina and Costa Rica. "Their presence in our country is particularly important when you consider it is the only Central American country they are visiting, it is clear that the benefits we can offer under the FTA are larger, which means benefits for Costa Ricans" explained Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Fernando Ocampo.

China is a strong investor in different regions of the world, particularly in sectors of interest to our country such as infrastructure, telecommunications and renewable energy, all of which are represented at the event which runs until tomorrow in the capital city.
