Costa Rica will have four private piers at Moin by 2016.

Construction will depend on the progress of a Government initiative to provide a concessions for the piers on the Caribbean coast.

One of these piers will be next to the current Taiwanese pier in Moin; it will be 11 meters deep and have to capacity to handle medium-sized ships that travel throughout Central America, the Caribbean and the United States.
The other three piers would be ready in 2016. For the construction of these a breakwater stretching 2.5 kilometers into the open sea from the Moin beach would be needed.

Sole Tender of $800 million for Limón´s New Port

The concession for the construction and operation will be offered by means of a sole process, and not fragmented as was speculated.

The idea of a process with several bidders had been supported by business unions such as the Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica. The price reduction of the new dock at Puerto Caldera will require importers to have a lot of trucks to carry their loads at once.

After three years of back and forth with the project by Sociedad Portuaria de Caldera (manager of the dock) and the Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports (INCOP) an agreement has been reached to lower the construction costs from the $44 million projected to $30 million, by eliminating the construction of silos and a conveyor belt for bulk products.

Albanisa to Construct Pier in Bilwi, Nicaragua

September 2010

The Tourism Institute has approved to award a new concrete pier project to Alba de Nicaragua, S.A (Albanisa).

According to the government decision, the company will have three years to carry out the work, which comprises the construction of a 210m long and 22m wide reinforced concrete pier with two docking berths.

New Container Terminal in Moin

June 2011

Costa Rica would receive $2265 million over the 30-year period of concession on taxes on income, creating 500 direct jobs and 8000 indirect jobs.
