A press release from the Foundation for Peace and Democracy reads:

The regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean from IDEA International, Daniel Zovatto, inaugurated an International Workshop entitled ‘Visions of the Country: Social Dialogue and Democratic Strengthening’ on December 8 at the Real Intercontinental hotel in Costa Rica.

Taking part in the opening ceremony were: Jorge Mattar, director of the Latin American and Caribbean Planning Institute ILPES / ECLAC, Carlos Rivera, president of the board of the Foundation for Peace and Democracy FUNPADEM, Cecilia Cortes, Executive Director, both organizers of the event, and also present was the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark, through its aid agency DANIDA. From the government of Costa Rica, performing official inaugurations, was Carlos Ricardo Benavides, Minister of the Presidency.

The current political and democratic climate, and the economic development of the region are different from that of three decades ago, said Daniel Zovatto, for whom there is a sense of opportunity to plan the development of the region. "National development should serve as a process of society’s transformation", and as in other opportunities in which we have analyzed visions for the country, challenges remain. "There should be a national vision, it is a prerequisite for closing the gap between the short and long term, in addition, the feasibility of a country’s development strategy increases with the commitment of all political and social entities involved, it is also important that the private sector be one with the state, with a common agenda and that each country adopts its plan according to their needs”, said Zovatto.
