El Salvador: 85% of Fomilenio's Funds Now Allocated

Of the $461 million Fomilenio donation, the government institution created to administer the projects has now committed $358 million.

September will mark three years since the signing of the agreement between the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the US government and El Salvador.

"The agreement is divided into three major components: human development, production development and the 'northern longitudinal highway' and was signed in 2007," comments Vincent Ruddy, MCC director for El Salvador, according to Laprensagrafica.com.

Regarding the northern longitudinal highway, the contract for the final 21.6 km stretch of road is now being signed.

Longitudinal Highway Awarded for $ 13 Million

The last section of the Longitudinal del Norte Highway was awarded to consortium Terrasal Salazar Romero.

The 16 kilometer construction work will be completed on May 2012.

"The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has allocated $ 248 million for Fomilinio to build the highway,” reports Laprensagrafica.com.

El Salvador: $40 Million for Infrastructure

The Millennium Fund (Fomilenio) will invest a total $45 million in the first half of 2010, both in infrastructure and productive development projects.

The infrastructure projects to be developed include a stretch of the Northern Longitudinal Highway (CLN in Spanish), and the construction of houses, drinkable water systems and rural roads.

Offers in for Final Stretch of "Longitudinal del Norte" Highway

Six companies have bid to construct Section 3B of the Salvadoran highway that traverses the north of the country.

The participating companies presented offers of between $20 and $31 million include Astaldi, FCC Cosntrucciones, Constructora Santa Fé and Equipos de Construcción.

The entity will invest in several projects, fostering human and productive development and road infrastructure.

$105 million are earmarked for the Northern Longitudinal Highway (known as CLN in Spanish), $22 million for community development and $13 million for training and education.
