El Salvador: Changes to "Housing for All" Tender

Current legislation requires the contractor to have developed at least three similar projects to the one which is being applied for. With the new changes construction companies can apply without having been specifically devoted to urban development projects.

Elmundo.com.sv published statements by the president of the Housing Social Fund (FONAVIPO), Marco Fortin, "... in the new tender regulations, the requirement of having the expertise in development lies with the resident of the project, not the construction company."

The National Popular Housing Fund plans to build 6,742 public houses in 2011.

Marco Fortin, president of the institution, referred to the seven projects managed by the government under the Home for All program.

The more advanced projects are those of Nuevo Belen, with 495 houses, which this year will begin title process, and La Bretaña with 1,875 homes.

28 Companies Bid For Construction Project in El Salvador

28 companies submitted bids for building the first phase of the “Nuevo Belén” project.

This initiative is part of a wider project called “Casa para Todos” (Housing for All), launched last year.

Companies are bidding for constructing the first phase, which includes 499 residences in 8 modules containing 38 to 40 units each. The winning company will be announced next week.
