Chamber requests a comprehensive reform in public transportation
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of El Salvador requests a reform to solve problems such as traffic accidents, route ranges, user abuse and congestion, among other pressing problems.
Our organization is in solidarity with the families of traffic accident victims and calls upon authorities to expedite investigations to establish responsibilities, properly applying the law.
The Chamber has concerns about the impunity reining the public transport system and requests for the Vice Ministry of Transportation to, without exception, apply the Land Transportation Act, as well as any other regulations and provisions in order to help ensure that there are no areas over the rule of law.
Our organization believes that the many problems facing the sector will not be overcome by halfway measures, but will only be resolved through a comprehensive reform including effective measures like real time monitoring of transportation vehicles, route redesign, respect for traffic laws and proper treatment to drivers, among others.
Also, our organization recognizes that the solution to the problem of passenger transportation requires a public-private effort, so we are already working to formulate proposals and contribute to the solution of the problem.
Finally, the Chamber reiterates that any measure or plan trying to solve the transportation problem will be inefficient if the government does not enforce the existing laws against those who break them and authorities must not evade their responsibility to investigate such violations.
