$5.7 million Investment in Laptops for Schools in El Salvador

With a total investment of $5.7 million the Government intends to increase the technological resources at the disposal of students.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has delivered more than 5,000 computers to 84 public education institutions, which will benefit over 55,000 students, investing some $2.3 million.

This investment is part of a program entitled Broadening Information Technology and Communication, whose resources come from the Program for Strengthening Social Cohesion in the Education Sector of El Salvador (Pro-EDUCA), with which computers worth a total of $ 5.7 million will be donated.

An article in laprensagrafica.com indicates "to date, in the public sector, the number of high school students per computer is 6.56. With the intervention, the index will decrease to 4.12 students per computer.

The aim is to diversify and increase technological resources available to schools, as well as, expanding access to Information Technology and Communication ".

The program has already delivered 400 computers to children in rural areas, and it plans to reach 800.000 during the next four years.

The initiative, known as “Closing the Knowledge Gap” (“Cerrando La Brecha del Conocimiento” in Spanish), will require a total investment of $246.2 million, and is intended for low income schools with low academic performance.

Tender for Laptops for $11 million

The Ministry of Education of Panama is putting out to tender the acquisition of 17,800 laptops.

The bid is to purchase 17,800 laptops for teachers to be trained by the project "Entre Pares Panamá” in 2012.

The date of the approval meeting is 23rd April 2012.

The deadline for submission of bids is April 27th, 2012.

The Ministry of Education has issued a tender for the purchase of 93,500 laptops.

The acquisition of laptops is for a government initiative called "Provision of Educational Laptops to Students - Spreading the Technology."
