Food Franchise Expands to Guatemala

The fast food chain Dairy Queen has announced it will open 15 stores in Guatemala.

In a press release, the company stated it has signed a franchise agreement with Grupo Buen Rollo, to open 15 stores by 2015.

According to plans, the first restaurant will be opened in Guatemala City in October 2011.

Dairy Queen is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, and already has 11 stores in Panama, while Buen Rollo Group operates more than 60 food outlest in Central America, Mexico and Colombia.

The Italian chain Al Macarone franchised 5 new restaurants in 2009.

Eduardo Valiente, Al Macarone's executive director, remarked that they have 52 restaurants in the country, 47 corporate owned and 5 franchises.

Pollo Campero Grows in Europe

The fast food chain plans to open 100 restaurants in the Iberian Peninsula over the next 5 years.

In alliance with Eat Out group, the Guatemalan franchise has opened its second restaurant in Barcelona, Spain.

From there, Campero plans to expand to all of Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

Costa Rica: McDonald's opens first "ecological" restaurant

The $2 million restaurant maximizes usage of natural light and does not need air conditioning.

Located in Lindora, Santa Ana, western San José, it has 400 square meters of construction. It employs 50 people, and is the chain's 34th store in the country.

According to Arcos Dorados, McDonald's operator in Costa Rica and Latin America, this is the first "ecological" restaurant in Central America.
