Food by Weight in Panama

There are now three restaurants in Panama City where you serve yourself what you want to eat at the buffet, and then go to the register to pay according to what the scales indicate.

The latest of its kind to open its doors to the public is Sabor Brazil, of course from Brazil. This restaurant’s target clientele are executives and international tourists.

Sabor Brazil’s daily menu includes ten hot dishes, at a cost of $4.50 per quarter pound (just over 110 grams). The scales record the weight of the chosen meal, discounting the weight of the plate of which it is served.

Two other establishments of the same style are "Coma al gusto" by Venezuelan investors, and "Restaurante Duke" which is the oldest of the three.

Investments to set up these restaurants ranged from $50,000 for Restaurante Duke, to $200,000 for Sabor Brazil.
