Guatemala: $100 Million for Water and Drainage

Water and Drainage projects will be financed with $50 million from Spain and $50 million from the IDB.

Guatemala will provide drinkable water and drainage services to some 600.000 people in 280 rural and 60 urban communities which currently lack them, with $100 million contributed by the Government of Spain and the Inter American Development Bank.

In addition to strengthening and expanding potable water and drainage services, the program will foster organized participation from communities and their municipal governments, in order to assure the project's sustainability.

Prensalibre.com reports: "Trinidad Jimenez Garcia, Spanish Secretary of State for Ibero-America, announced yesterday at a press conference that the donation was made via the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in order to provide potable water to the country's poorest municipalities."

Panama to Expand Water and Sanitation Services

Investments will target cities in central and western provinces, along with low-income suburban communities near Panama City.

Panama will expand coverage and improve the quality of water supply services and sewer systems in cities near its capital and in its central and western provinces with a $40 million loan approved by the Inter-American Development Bank.

$320 Million for Water Works in Costa Rica

Funds from Spain, Japan and the IDB will be used to improve drinkable water and sewer infrastructure.

The project comprises $20 million from Spain, a $73 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, $150 million provided by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and $77 million from the Government of Costa Rica.

Honduras will receive a $25 million grant from the Spanish Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean to expand and improve drinking water and sanitation services in rural communities with fewer than 2,000 people, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said today.
