The "Recovery Road Plan, Safe Highways" aims to recover 1,360 km. of highways and 4,300 km. of rural roads.

In order for the country's roads to be usable and safe President, Otto Perez Molina, accompanied by the vice president, Roxana Baldeti and minister of communications infrastructure and housing, Alejandro Sinibaldi, have launched the " Recovery Road Plan, Safe Highways ".
With an investment of Q800 million ($102.4 million) the project aims to recover 1,360 kilometers of roads and 4,300 kilometers of rural roads which are unpaved, and is expected to be completed before the start of the winter.

The president of Guatemala has announced a master infrastructure program for the construction and expansion of roads and bridges.
President Otto Perez Molina announced the launch of several major infrastructure projects, among which are two roads: one from port to port (from Santo Tomas de Castilla, Izabal, to Quetzal, Escuintla) and one border to border (from Mexico to El Salvador).

Loans from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will go towards highway upgrades and rural infrastructure improvements.
Of the CABEI funds, $30 million will be used to widen 50km of Route 112 to four lanes.
“The Rural Infrastructure Program will receive funds totalling $15 million to be invested in local roads, environmentally friendly rural electrification projects, as well as the renewal and maintenance of existing infrastructure, benefitting the country’s poorest communities,” reports Capitales.com.
