Guatemala: $ 100 Million from World Bank

The loan will assist in preservation of health and education in the event of natural disasters.

This emergency project will provide funds to pay salaries of health workers and teachers in the poorest municipalities of the country, assisting in keeping health centers and care facilities operational and to ensure educational coverage for 2.8 million children, while the government uses financial resources for reconstruction efforts.

This project will support two social services in Guatemala:

Three levels of health and emergency services in the 130 poorest municipalities, through funding of wages for skilled health employees.

Sustain basic education for vulnerable children by funding teacher salaries in the 130 poorest municipalities and supporting Telesecundaria program facilitators in rural and remote areas.

This emergency operation by the World Bank includes supporting the Government in coordinating, reviewing and monitoring project implementation, including audits.

Small-business suppliers of Costa Rica's Café Britt travel, souvenir and coffee retailer are to be offered US$1 million in loans from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).

The loans are to be offered under an agreement between Café Britt and the BCIE. Café Britt will back the loans.

El Salvador Receives an Additional $250 million

These World Bank funds will be used in social spending, education, health care, job generation, public structure and in the public sector.

The multilateral organism made a commitment to grant El Salvador an additional $250 million for the June 2009 - June 2010 fiscal period.

Honduras to improve basic education with IDB support

April 2011

Honduras will improve basic education for more than 100,000 students with the help of a $37 million loan from the IDB.

The financing will help students to learn more in basic education schools that serve the country’s poorest population.

The program’s goal of improving educational quality is designed to complement the “Bono 10Mil” program, which provides conditional cash transfers to low-income families that keep their children in school.
