Banrural will participate in the financing of the project's Los Micos Beach in Bahía de Tela and Mercom Bank Ltd of the financial group Agromercantil, will fund the project ‘Pristine Bay Resort, Golf & Spa’ on the island of Roatan, Honduras.
According to an article in Elperiodico.com.gt, "Sergei Walter, a spokesman for Banrural, believes that beyond an interest in financing foreign tourism projects there is also capacity for Guatemalan banks to compete with other entities in Central and Latin America to support investment plans in other countries in the region.
In the same way that banks in Colombia and El Salvador finance Guatemalan businessmen, the local bank supports investment opportunities both nationally and internationally, said Walter."
