Guatemalan National Treasury Foresees $494 Million Less

The Guatemalan Government will collect $494 million less in taxes in 2009 and the national budget could be reduced to $5.562 billion.

It was reported in the Prensa Libre website: "To meet the revenue decline for the budget, the government is already prepared with four scenarios: the first would be to reduce public spending, the second to search for internal or external credit, the third to increase revenues via taxes, and the fourth could be a combination of the previous three."

Honduras Foresees Lower Tax Revenue for 2009

For the first time this decade, the government adjusted tax revenue collection downwards from $2.43 billion to $2.27 billion.

Luis Rodrigéz, wrote in El Heraldo of Honduras: "The Ministry of Finance (SEFIN) planned to raise $2.430 million, however, that figure was reduced to $2.270 million after learning that customs revenues experienced a decline due to the reduction in the import of goods.

Panama: More Revenue than Projected

The Ministry of Economy will revises its forecasts upwards both for economic growth and estimated income from tax reforms approved in July 2010.

The tax reform package introduced in late 2009 by the Ministry envisaged a hike on property transfer tax (ITBMS) from 5% to 7% and projected additional revenue of $200 million a year.

Guatemala: 20% Rise in Tax Collections

In the first six months of the year the total raised was $2,778 million, 20% higher than the $2,316 million collected in the same period in 2010.

According to the Tax Authority, revenue from Value Added Tax (VAT) on imports registered an increase of 18.5%, while domestic VAT revenue increased 21.45%.
