Hamburg Sud opens offices in Guatemala, El Salvador

Hamburg Süd is one of the key carriers on the North-South trade routes by ocean transportation.

Hamburg Sud Guatemala S.A., with its head office in Guatemala City will be responsible for the group's container shipping activities in Guatemala. The German carrier's long-time partner in Guatemala, Transoceanicas S.A., will continue as partner and port agent in Guatemalan ports.

Hamburg Sud El Salvador S.A de C.V, headquartered in San Salvador, will be responsible for the group's container shipping activities in El Salvador.

Hamburg Sud Costa Rica S.A., with its head office in San Jose, will be responsible for the group's container shipping activities in Costa Rica.

With the establishment of Hamburg Süd Costa Rica S.A., with effect from 1 January 2009, the shipping group is taking account of the growing importance of Costa Rican market.

Two Shipping Lines to Begin Operations in Puerto La Union

The companies Hamburg Süd and APL (American President Lines) will start operating at the marine terminal from September 13.

Ships will arrive at the terminal on Tuesdays, with three ships alternating each week.

World’s Second Largest Shipping Company Sets Up in El Salvador

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) expects to attract between 10% and 12% of the Salvadoran market in its first year of operation.

The company plans to move 50 to 60 thousand containers per year, focusing on routes to Asia, Mexico and South America.

MSC manager Jose Bodewing indicated in an Elsalvador.com article that around 20 to 25 thousand dollars are moved for each docking a ship makes, so the shipping business will generate over 120 indirect jobs because they hire transport, warehousing, port services and others."

Naviera Anave Will Operate From Honduras

The Spanish shipping company will include Port Cortés as one of its permanent destinations.

Representatives from the shipping company explained they will carry Honduran coffee to Europa and Asia.

From Elheraldo.hn: "Mohand Merzkany, commercial director at Honduras's National Ports Company (ENP), reported that Leticia Beuth, president of Anave,... visited the port to inform on this new business opportunity".
