Honduran Banks Outlook

Fitch Ratings Central America commented on the state of the Honduran banking system, in the light of recent political developments.

Risks faced by Honduran banks due to the adverse economic environment have increased as a result of recent political events in the country. A Fitch report on April 2009 reported that Honduran banks were sensibly affected by the adverse local and regional economic environment. This was particularly visible in less profit, as well as a deterioration of the loan portfolio. Right now, Honduran banks face greater challenges, due to higher currency exchange risks, and worse credit portfolios.

Despite recent political developments, Fitch has not changed the credit ratings of Honduran banks, because the situation has not yet affected their operations, deposits, liquidity or performance....

Latin America is poised for an economic recovery in 2010 with Fitch Ratings forecasting the region's real GDP growing by 4% in 2010.

Currently, Fitch has three sovereigns on Positive Outlook and only one on Negative Outlook suggesting that the credit cycle in Latin America has turned. Fitch expects the trends in sovereign creditworthiness to be broadly stable to slightly positive in 2010.

Fitch Affirms Costa Rica's Ratings

Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at BB, Long-term local currency IDR at BB+, Short-term IDR at B, Country ceiling at BB+.

The Rating Outlook is Stable.

Costa Rica's ratings are supported by its high per capita income, strong governance indicators, modest external debt burden and improved public finances.
