Honduran Coffee Wins Flavor Award

The Institute of International Taste and Quality, (ITQI) awarded the Superior Taste Award 2009 to El Indio coffee.

The winning varieties were El Indio Espresso Roast and El Indio Gourmet Coffee Flavored with Hazelnut.

La Prensa published on its website: “The recognition was given during the institution’s annual ceremony, after it was tasted by expert chefs and sommeliers from ITQI who sampled 796 other products sent by 290 companies from 75 countries. Of the samples, 595 products were rewarded for their delicious taste."

Panama: Geisha Variety Wins Coffee Tasting

The flavor and aroma of Geisha coffee took the top two positions in the XII version of the "Best of Panama 2009" tasting.

First place went to the Hacienda La Esmeralda, owned by the Peterson family and second place went to Carleida Farm, owned by Carlos Santiago.

Raul Lopez wrote in la Estrella.com.pa: "The third place went to the Pacamara variety, produced on the Gea Burnesky farm belonging to Gonzalo Rojas, who explained that this variety was brought from El Salvador. Fourth place went to a mixture of Caturra A and Typica from the Paso Ancho Farm owned by the Franceshi Aguilera family, while fifth place went to Lamastus Family Estates, which presented a Catuai sample.

Coffee Excellence Cup Concludes in El Salvador

The winning coffee plantation was “La Suiza”, with 91.05 points; 124 coffee samples were evaluated.

CSC, the Salvadoran Coffee Council, explained that the winning coffee is a mixture of two varieties: Bourbon and Pacamara.

Together with “La Suiza”, two other plantations were awarded the Presidential Award for obtaining more than 90 points: “El Ausol” (90.48 points) and “La Montañita” (90.45 points).

Honduran Coffee Quality Improves

700 coffee growers implemented a quality management system that allows their product to enter the specialty coffee market.

The article by Yesille Ponce in Laprensa.hn said that "this project was developed in 2005, allowing the coffee to enter the specialty coffee market segment, emphasizing the image of Honduras at the international level.
