Honduran Exports to the Region Increase by 33%

From January to June 2011 total exports to Central America reached $418.2 million, 33% higher than the $313.8 million in the same period last year.

The main destinations for the Honduran products in Central America were El Salvador and Guatemala, followed by Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

"Regionally, Central America is in third place as a destination for exports, with 18%, with the European Union and North America occupying the top two spots", reported Elheraldo.hn.

Honduran Melon Exports Increase

The value of exports at the end of the 2010-11 crop exceeded $50 million, the highest in the history of the industry.

The increase in export volumes and favorable international melon prices are the two main reasons for this significant growth.

Additionally, the product is now being shipped to more destinations, namely European nations. So far the main destination for Honduran melon had been the United States.

Guatemalan exports to Central American region doubles

Exports to the other Central American countries went from $642.4 million to $1.01 billion, an increase of 57.7%.

According to elperiodico.com.gt, "The increase in sales is due to greater demand as a result of CAFTA-DR.

All together, exports have provided $4.84 billion in earnings for the country, some $808.3 million more than the previous year, according to a December 11 report from the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat)."

Exports in Central America up 17.6%

Report from SIECA shows an increase of $2,406 million in external trade for the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.

After 18 months of instability and falling levels of trade, in the first quarter of 2010 external trade recorded an increase of $2,406 million, according to statistics from central banks, trade and economy ministers and statistics institutes of Central American countries.

Guatemalan Exports Up 14.5%

March 2011

Foreign sales in January reported $ 768.2 million, 14.5% more than the $ 671.1 million in the same period of 2010.

Data reported by Banco de Guatemala indicate that the biggest growth was in sales of traditional products, which increased 25.6%, noting that exports to Central America totaled $ 186.5 million.
