Honduras: $27 Million for Agriculture Projects

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will loan $27 million to a program fostering rural business.

The funds are earmarked for the departments of Olancho, El Paraíso, Colón and Gracias a Dios, and intended to fund projects by small producers. It is part of the National Program for Sustainable Rural Development (Pronaders).

"... rural areas will be supported with technical assistance, training, financial resources, as well as assistance in transforming and selling the goods produced in each area", explained Ramón Chacón, Pronaders director.

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a US$15.6 million loan to help Corporación Agrícola S.A. (Agricorp), Nicaragua’s leading distributor of rice, wheat, beans, and other staple food products, to ensure reliable food supplies and expand opportunities for small-scale farmers.

Nicaragua: $50 Million Deficit in Agricultural Financing

The Nicaraguan agricultural sector faces a funding shortfall of $50 million for the current production cycle.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ariel Bucardo, in an interview with La Prensa of Nicaragua, said that the total funding required for the three agricultural cycles is $400 million, and added that "we still do not know how much funding is available."

$ 41 Million for Honduran Farmers

Funding will be available for basic grains producers.

The Honduran government announced a series of measures to support the agricultural sector, including access to funding of over $ 40 million.

These resources will, among other things, give farmers the ability to implement technological advances which could improve planting results.
