Honduras: $79 Million for Housing Construction

The private sector and the state will earmark $79.43 million for loans for housing construction in response to the economic crisis.

Enrique Briceño, former Housing Minister and representative for the Honduran Construction Industry Chamber told El Heraldo: "The solution to this crisis has begun in the housing sector and infrastructure investment. More than 1.5 billion Lempiras are reaching the poorest population at an interest rate of 9 to 10%."

The Salvadoran Construction Industry Chamber (CASALCO) is not seeking massive loans, but more flexibility in granting credit.

La Prensa Grafica published on its website: According to Nolasco, the hope is to find new funding mechanisms in private banking, as well as to know what the requirements are to gain access to resources. Earlier this year, several construction companies went to the the Multisectoral Investment Bank (BMI) to look for financing mechanisms that would allow the development of 11 housing projects that needed an investment of $70.1 million, of which $31 million was expected to be obtained from the second-tier bank."

Panama: $170 Million for Mortgage Loans

September 2010

During this year, the "Caja de Ahorros" (CA) aims to place $170 million in Mortgage Loans.

By the end of August $73,2 million have already been lent and the goal is to double this amount, pointed Rodrigo Arosemena, General Manager of this organization.

Arosemena commented to Panamá América that "...we will focus on promoting savings and we will increase mortgages, mainly those with preferential interest or under $30 thousand."
