At an event where authorities awarded contracts for generating renewable energy, investors and project developers announced $2.1 billion in investment over the next 6 years.
52 renewable energy projects are to be developed between 2010 and 2016, generating over 800MW. ENEE will purchase 250MW at an average price of $0.1 per kWh, explained Héctor Borjas, vice president of the Honduran Association of Small Energy Generators (Ahpper).

ENEE, the National Electric Energy Company, received bids to supply 250 MW of renewable energy.
Dennis Rivera, head of ENEE's Contract Administration Department, explained they will award the contract in less than 25 days.
"The definitive prices have not been calculated yet, but the rules state that the maximum price is $10.25 per kWh", explained Rivera.

The National Energy Company (ENEE) will inform next week on the future of this bidding process, stalled a couple of months ago.
Cohep, the Honduran Private Enterprise Council, discussed this process with the government, in which 50 companies participated.
Armando Urtecho, Cohep legal advisor, stated: “we believe the government will conclude the process, we’ll now their definitive decision by Tuesday at 2.00 PM”.

Contracts awarded for the generation and sale of 250 megawatts of renewable energy are still being reviewed.
The Honduran Congress had intended to begin the first hearing of discussions on 18 August but this proved impossible due to continuing review process.

At least 10 companies have already acquired the bidding rules ready to present bids on 28 October.
Among the companies interested in bidding is Centrans Energy which operates a wind farm in the Pacaya volcano area, which generates 50 MW and represents an investment of $125 million.
