The president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo, recently announced that the controversial "immigration whack" of $34 that was going to be charged to domestic and foreign travelers entering and leaving the country, has been vetoed.
"It is now vetoed. It is not law. A law is a law when it has been published and this has not been published, has not been sanctioned and was vetoed in a timely manner," said Lobo to the media in San Pedro Sula, LaPrensa.hn reported.
Relieved, the president of the National Chamber of Tourism of Honduras, CANATURH, Epaminondas Marinakys revealed that the Minister of the Interior, Africa Madrid, made the announcement to the business tourism sector. "Minister Africa Madrid confirmed (Friday) at the meeting of CANATURH that President Porfirio Lobo has vetoed charging for airport security," he explained. "We are pleased with President Lobo’s decision because this charge aggravated the situation of the tourism industry, as it was pushing us out of the market."
