The purchase includes 303 computers, peripherals, UPS and various Microsoft software licenses.

This International Competitive Tender will be created with World Bank funds, as part of the ‘Quality Education, Governance and Institutional Strengthening’ project.

The acquisition includes multiple copies of Microsoft software, firewalls, laptops, desktop computers, peripherals, UPS, HP hardware, servers, antivirus software, backup systems and switches as well as support services and related training.

The deadline for bids will be December 19, 2011, with the closing date for questions and clarification on December 9.

Robert Ivanschitz, Microsoft’s legal director, told newspaper La Prensa Gráfica that “the state wins when legal software is used, as it collects taxes”.

He remarked that the country’s legal framework in this matter is not up to date, and that the government faces the challenge of maintaining it in line with the current reality. Ivanschitz commented that this problem is not exclusive to El Salvador, as it also occurs in the rest of Central America.
