A press release from the Inter-American Development Bank reads:
Honduras received from the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) in 2011 about U.S. $300 million in disbursements, of which about U.S. $256 million was for the public sector, U.S. $30 million to the private sector and the rest in grant resources, mainly for technical cooperation. This is a record in the history of the country, representing a nearly 80 percent increase compared to expenditures in 2010 and three times the average of the last five years.
"The level of expenditure is due to the commitment of Honduran public sector institutions to advancing the implementation of projects and thus benefiting the most vulnerable sectors of the country. The highlights of these are achievements in social protection, energy, transport, water and sanitation, among others", said Ian Walker, IDB Representative in Honduras.
Also in 2011 $320 million was approved for new projects in the fields of primary education, population census, social security, financial security and ease of credit for emergencies and natural disasters. Notably, the facility aims to provide the Government with immediately available resources to meet the requirements of a possible large-scale natural disaster.
