According to the Central Bank of Honduras, bananas rank second in generating foreign exchange, coming after coffee.
Closing the year with figures close to $400 million would mean the highest value generated in the last decade.
According to an article in Elheraldo.hn, "When compared to the value of exports from January to September 2010 ($234.3 million), there is an increase of $62.3 million and 26.6 percentage points in value.
This can be explained by the 19.5% increase in the international price of the fruit. The price per box of 40 pounds increased from 12.56 to 15.02 dollars during the period. "
