Honduras: $10 Million Trust for Telecom Investment

Laticom Int is planning to develop several projects in the Honduran Telecommunications Company.

The U.S. company and technology services provider, has signed a trust for a total of $10 million to implement various projects in the Honduran Telecommunications Company (Hondutel).

The trust will help ensure the implementation of the project and improve data transport, Internet and other telecommunications services.

A report in El Heraldo notes "the Honduran state telephone company and Laticom Honduras formed a business alliance in January of this year, which was published on March 26 in the La Gaceta. In addition, Laticom pledged to invest $50.5 million in Hondutel in order to improve the optical fiber the country currently possess "..

Neutral Fiber Optic Network Project Canceled

Racsa has rejected a proposal by the Swedish company Via Europa to build a fiber optic network for homes in Costa Rica, which would be open to all Internet service providers.

An announcement by the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) about its project, Range, to build a network to provide connections to the Internet via fiber optic and copper lines, seems to be the reason for the abandonment of this similar project driven by Radiográfica Costarricense (RACSA) .

Costa Rican Cable Company to Install Fiber Optics Network

May 2010

CableTica, a local cable company, will install a fiber optics network to provide services to mobile telephony operators and internet television.

Parent company Televisora de Costa Rica S.A. reported they signed a contract with Ericsson to build and operate the network over the next 5 years.
