How to successfully export to the USA

The exporters corporation of El Salvador is holding a regional workshop themed “Modernising Technical Requirements” to help people export to the U.S. safely.

As part of its AGROCAFTA program, the corporation of exporters of El Salvador (COEXPORT) is including a a regional workshop on modernising technical requirements to support SMEs with making secure exports to the U.S.

The workshop will be attended by more than 40 public and private specialists and academics mostly from of El Salvador, with 9 representatives from institutions in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. At the same time with the collaboration of OIRSA, the workshop will be screened via video conferencing to these countries, gaining more than 130 American participants in the process.

The program's goal is to contribute to the productive development of communities in the north of the capital.

A total of nine communities in Colonia Escalon will benefit from the program called "Sustainable Communities: Entrepreneurship and Employment Generation."

To implement the program, USAID has provided $ 500 thousand, Grupo Agrisal $ 125 thousand, the same amount by Fundación Meza Ayuda, FUNDEMAS $ 100 thousand and the Fondo de Iniciativas de Educación $ 250.000.

There are seven challenges to improving the productivity of small and medium sized enterprises, according to the results of a 2-year study of Salvadoran SMEs.

The project will improve productivity of MSMEs in tourism and agribusiness.

For this, the World Bank will invest U.S. $ 32 million to strengthen their added value products, quality and integration to national and international markets.

"Micro, small and medium businesses generate most jobs in Guatemala, this project will help promote growth and increase their productivity," said Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Director for Central America. "Promoting sustainable growth and productivity is one of the World Bank´s priorities for the Partnership Strategy with Guatemala," he added.

$ 8 million for Costa Rican SME's

December 2010

The agreement signed with the EU will implement project 'Procalidad' to improve the industry´s quality standards.

The project aims at improving quality standards, which increases chances of incursions into international markets by Small and Medium Enterprises, specifically the European market.
