Guatemala Authorizes Hydroelectric Plant

The regulatory agency has authorized company Generadora San Mateo to install the ‘Pojom II’ hydroelectric station on the rivers Pojom and Negro in San Mateo, Ixtatán.

Located in the department of Huehuetenango, the Pojom II hydroelectric project will have a total installed capacity of 23 megawatts.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has authorized the use of hydrological flow of the Pojom and Negro rivers for a period of 50 years.

"The projects Jolom Jolom I and II are driven by the Promociones y Desarrollos Hídricos, S.A.(PDHSA) who awaded the Spanish company Energy Hidralia the preparation of feasibility studies and project design, according to its website" , reports Elperiodico.com.gt

Hydroelectric Project ‘Las Fuentes II’ Authorized

The Guatemalan Ministry of Energy and Mines has authorized the company Ocosito S.A. to install a hydroelectric power station, on the river Ocosito.

According to the Ministerial Agreement No. 197-2011, published in the Diario de Centro America permission to use the Ocosito River flow has been granted for a period of 50 years.

The hydroelectric project, La Vega I, in its first stage will generate 38 megawatts.

"According to the Ministerial Agreement 099-2011 published yesterday in the official gazette, the entity Hidroxil may use the flow from the two rivers for a period of 50 years.

Located in the municipality of Santa María Nebaj, the Vega II hydroelectric project will have a total installed capacity of 18.75 megawatts.
