Loan Approved for Public Transport System

Members of the Finance Commission of El Salvador have agreed to approve a loan for $45 million to upgrade the public transport system.

A press release from the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador states that:

“The approval of a loan agreement signed between the Government of El Salvador and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for the amount of $45 million to finance the implementation of a "Transportation Program for the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador" was the subject discussed by the deputies in the Special Committee on Finance and Budget.”

The press release goes on to say that the aim of the program is to “ improve public transportation and transit passengers in the metropolitan area of San Salvador …primarily for low-income citizens, providing a safe, modern transportation system, and strengthening the economic and social development of the area.”

According to the Vice Ministry of Transportation, one of the main routes on which an articulated bus route is being considered is between Soyapango and la Plaza Salvador del Mundo, a distance of approximately 7.2 miles.

Funding Approved for Road Infrastructure

The Salvadoran Congress has authorized loan applications of up to $30 million for the Rural Connectivity Programme in the North and East of the country.

The amount will be managed by the Ministry of Finance and will be signed with the OPEN Fund for International Development (OFID), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), reported DiarioCoLatino.com.

$850 Million For Roads and Highways

June 2009

Costa Rica approved a line of credit from the IDB for the rehabilitation of roads and improvements to the road infrastructure in cities and national routes.

The loans for $850 million authorized by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID acronym in Spanish) were approved by the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica for financing of the Transportation Infrastructure Program.

The IDB has approved a loan to reduce vulnerability to floods and landslides in slums of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area.
