Metro Line 2 to be Tendered in 2013

Studies of passenger demand are underway and this year, the design plans will be started for Line 2 of the Panamanian Metro system .

Line 2, which will be only in an elevated form, will join the sector December 24 with the intersection of San Miguelito in the capital, said Robert Roy, secretary of the Metro.

"The cost will be released later this year," he said.

"The route of Metro Line 2 will depart from the village of December 24 crossing through Domingo Díaz (towards Tocumen) to the bridge of San Miguelito, where it will connect with the Metro Line 1, the route is estimated to take 23 minutes from Los Andes No. 2 to Albrook . ", reported Elsiglo.com

Contract to Build Panamanian Metro Signed

The Panama Metro Department and Consorcio Línea 1 signed last Friday the contract for the construction of Metro Line 1.

The project will stretch 13.6 kilometers and will be built from Los Andes, San Miguelito district, to the Albrook bus terminal, so the president made a special request to Panamanians in order for them to have patience with the changes which will happen as a consequence of the Metro works.

Panamanian Metro Route Could be Extended

The Metro Secretary does not rule out extending the first route of the metro system up to San Isidro.

Such was the response of Metro Secretary Roberto Roy, when asked about a potential extension of the route by some interested companies. He added that the topic will be studied with the Economy ministry.

Panama Metro Announces its First Line

Line 1 of the system will travel the city in a north-south axis, from the "Los Andes" area to Albrook Transport Terminal.

Roberto Roy, Metro Secretary, explained that Line 1 will run for approximately 14 kilometers, beggining at the sector known as "Los Andes", and then traveling the Transístmica avenue, the Fernandez de Córdoba avenue, España avenue, and Justo Arosemena avenue.

Panama Modifies Bidding Rules for Metro

The Metro Secretary announced that the updated bidding rules can be downloaded from PanamaCompra since yesterday.

These modifications were included by request of some of the companies interested in developing the Metro System of Panama City.

Roberto Roy, Metro Secretary, was quoted in Prensa.com: “we modified the rules to ease the liquidity and indebtedness ratios … we reduced the importance given to local experience, from 13 to 8, out of a total 130 points”.
