Mexican Microfinancer Opens Offices in Guatemala

Banco Compartamos has announced the start of operations in Guatemala through a new subsidiary.

The offices of Compartamos SA are located in the departments of Quetzaltenango (Coatepeque and Quetzaltenango) Retalhuleu (in the town of the same name) and Suchitepequez (Mazatenango).

With this operation, Compartamos, S.A.B., de CV takes another step in its international expansion. In March 2011, the company announced an agreement to acquire 82.7% of Financiera Crear in Peru. These international operations join the list the group already has in Mexico where via Banco Compartamos serves more than 2 million people with credit for working capital.

Compartamos is a holding company whose objective is to promote, organize and manage all types of companies, national and international, subject to their investment policies. For the moment, its only subsidiary is Banco Compartamos, SA, Institución de Banca Múltiple. Compartamos was founded in Mexico City in 2010. Its shares began trading on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, SAB de CV24 December 2010 under the ticker symbol "COMPARC. "

Qualitas Insurance Subsidiary Increases Stake in El Salvador

Qualitas, the Mexican insurer, has increased to 100% its participation in the Salvadoran Qualitas Insurance Company.

The company made the announcement of the purchase via a press release without disclosing the amount of the transaction.

"This will benefit both sides, as it will start up a business relationship in the different countries where Quálitas operates," it said in the note.

Qualitas Insurance company, of Mexican origin, announced yesterday that it will begin to operate in El Salvador after carrying out a feasibility study.

Qualitas started to process its license at the middle of last year when its presented the corresponding paperwork and request to authorities in order to obtain authorization to enter the country and to operate as an insurance company specializing in car insurance.
