Millennium Challenge Changes Fund Allocation

$19.4 million will be redirected to support education, electrification and connectivity projects in El Salvador.

$12.56 million will be allocated to connectivity projects, while $6.68 million will be spent in human development.

Fomilenio’s reallocation proposal has already been approved by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). It was decided “after a mid-term revision of the agreement, which began on September 2007 and lasts 5 years”.

Fomilenio, the country's Millenium Fund, has signed contracts to carry out community infrastructure, public services and productivity improvement projects.

Of the $460.9 million donated by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), $361 million have now been earmarked.

$48 million for Rural Roads in El Salvador

A loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration is intended to improve rural roads in the north.

The improvement works on rural roads will allow access to the Longitudinal del Norte Highway from the municipalities of the Department of Chalatenango.

"The FMLN deputy Inmar Reyes said the money will be used for connections in the north of the country where there are municipalities where the Longitudinal del Norte bypasses them making it necessary to improve road infrastructure so that they can have access to this new communication path.

Partnership for Tourism at Mayan Culture Sites

Guatemala and the Mexican state of Quintana Roo are to establish air links to boost tourist visits near the end of one of the cycles of the Mayan calendar.

The two sides will cooperate to build on and enhance the flow of tourists in December to celebrate this year's the 13th Baktun, one cycle of the Mayan calendar, which has been associated in the popular culture of the early twenty-first century with momentous events .

Fomilenio Invests $2 Million in El Salvador

Fomilenio, the country's Millenium Fund, has signed contracts relating to energy and drinking water infrastructure in the north of the country.

These projects, valued at $2 million, will be financed with part of a $461 million donation from the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
