Monopoly on Marine Licenses

Orion Maritime Training Center is the only company authorized by the Panama Maritime Authority to certify marine licenses on the Panamanian registry, the largest in the world.

Monday, November 7, 2011

The training center, established in May 2010, has a total of 51 courses approved by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP in Spanish).

The Panamanian newspaper La Prensa consulted the AMP on the issue of "... technical evaluations conducted in order to accredit Orion Maritime Training Center as the only service center authorized to perform the assessment, but there was no formal response.

Instead, an official said in a telephone conversation that this decision had been made because other maritime training centers do not meet the requirements necessary to train mariners or perform the assessments. "

The AMP said the certifications issued by some companies were canceled due to abnormalities in the services offered.
