It is located in Santa Barbara, Honduras and required an investment of $1 million. It was constructed with fund contributions from the Millennium Account-Honduras and the Honduran Coffee Institute.

Hondudiario.com reported statements from the technical manager of the Honduran Institute of Coffee (IHCAFE), Mario Ordoñez: "This laboratory is a technological alternative for coffee producers in Honduras and Central America because we're working on a new phase in plant reproduction, a new methodology called somatic embryogenesis, which is unlike conventional seed methodology."
